Mental Illness - Is Hospitalization Necessary

First Question to be addressed with medical professional?

Of the 10.3 million people who sought mental health treatment in 2012, less than 10% required hospitalization. More than half of those who needed inpatient-care had schizophrenia, one of the most severe forms of mental illness and is necessary. If you or someone you know may have a mental illness, the chances are that you will NOT need hospitalization.

HOWEVER: It is vitally important that you get a medical diagnosis on whether the patient needs immediate hospitalization.

90% of mental health disorders can and will be treated most successfully through a specialist residential treatment.

Questions to ask Yourself. At 1Recovery Center our professionals will ask these questions of the family member to safely and properly help you and the patient.

Has the person been professionally evaluated? By whom? Do I understand the diagnosis?

Why am I seeking admission to a treatment center for the person?

  1. A doctor's recommendation?
  2. I need to have patient removed from the family situation? Why? Because of behavioral problems?
  3. What are they? Because family cannot care for him or her? Why?
